Mel's Story
Life
Wow, what can I say? Actually, what can I remember after 20 years!!
Two years after graduating from Overland with a -1.5 GPA, I moved back east to Jersey to live with pops for a while. I got my first decent job doing drafting for a company in Manhattan. The plan at the time was to work for a year, then go to school in Indiana. Well, it didn't work that way! My son was born in 1990, so I had to put plans for school on the side for a minute. Besides, who would accept a negative GPA! Alright, just kidding about that, but anyway... Just worked and worked, learning design and CAD and all that stuff over the years. Went to tech school for 1 1/2 years before leaving for Western Michigan University in 95.
I took a year off from working to concentrate on school, partying, and all that. I got involved in the solar car racing program there, and became the body design team leader for Sunseeker 97. I don't know what they saw, but I took it and ran! I enjoyed school and Kalamazoo for a while, then started working for another architectural/engineering firm as a mechanical designer. I dropped down to part-time with classes after a year of working there, it was too much. So, blah blah blah, years gone by, life as usual, work, school,... I left the company after 8 1/2 years hoping for something with a new firm. With the MI economy the way it is, finding a job there still is a challenge for a lot of people. I've met...Expand for more
a lot of great people in MI and still keep in touch with many but it was time again to do something different. So, I decided to get out of there, and move back to Denver.
So, here I am again! Moved back Feb. 06, and pretty happy I did. I'm nearer to family, my son, and slowly running into old friends, that's been nice. Right now, I work downtown as a plumbing project designer/project manager, looking to get back in school. I need to finish and get my degree in mechanical engineering and possibly business as well. I spend most of my free time at Bandimere Speedway, working out, reading, CD shopping, and hanging with my son. No wife, never married, pretty single these days, but kinda liking it for now! If the right person comes along, then hey. I plan on getting into racing next year, and making another attempt at a sport compact/tuner shop in the near future. The idea didn't have much strength in K'zoo unfortunately. I need to hurry though, I'm going to lose my license pretty quick if I keep driving my project Talon around town!
For those that remember Bill Hollis, he's still my best friend! Although we've kinda went our own ways a little, we remained close as ever, supported each other in everything, visited when we could,... that's my man!!!
So, that's the nutshell, with one big nut inside! Life is great! Gotta work on my GPA though!
Hope everyone is doing well !!!!!!! See you at the reunion!
